The Oxford Story Tree series is based on the Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) series. Most of the stories are the same but the language is made a little simpler. Here is an example from The Kidnappers, in the Pink series (and ORT Stage 8).

There are 7 levels in the Oxford Story Tree:
- Red Books: Level 1
- Blue Books: Level 2
- Green Books: Level 3
- Orange Books: Level 4
- Pink Books: Level 5
- Purple Books: Level 6
- Brown Books: Level 7
